About Us

Mission and History

American Communities is dedicated to providing thoughtfully designed, environmentally friendly housing while contributing to the enhancement of everyday life for the residents of each community in which we build. Our long term commitment ensures that each of our buildings are built in suitable locations by expert craftsmen.

Mark Walther, Frank Fonseca and Cynthia Michels, American Communities’ principals, have extensive backgrounds in all aspects of housing finance, development and construction.

Since 2000, American Communities and its affiliates have financed and built hundreds of housing units valued in excess of $350 million. All of these developments utilized some combination of housing tax credits, tax exempt bond financing, HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds, Community Development Block Grants, the Affordable Housing Program (AHP), Los Angeles Affordable Housing Trust Funds (HTF), Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Funds or tax increment financing.

American Communities is an active member of the California Housing Consortium and the California Council for Affordable Housing.
